Stained Glass

Nowhere is colour better captured than in stained glass. The luminescence of backlit windows in churches and elsewhere is unique. Virtually no medieval stained glass survives in Scotland, it having been purged in the Protestant Reformation. But there was an outpouring of excellent glass in the latter decades of the 19th century and into the 20th. On the Continent, beautiful examples exist from as far back as the 13th century, naive in its design but beautiful in its colours, Chartres Cathedral being a prime example. I have photographed many such windows.
