Manchester has been undergoing an unprecedented building boom, with new hi-rise blocks soaring over the city centre, where they offer an interesting contrast with the 19th century canal architecture. Beetham Tower, designed by SimpsonHaugh and completed in 2006, set a new height record for the city at 169m and was the UK’s tallest building outside London. In 2017 the same architects completed the four towers at Deansgate Square, the southernmost of which now stands at 201m.

I have also photographed New Islington, in Manchester North; a development more focussed on the canals - see here
